Alcohol addiction is a major concern in the mental health landscape of the country and permeates the physical, psychological, social and emotional lives of the individuals that it affects. This course provides an overview of the principles of Alcohol addiction, both chemical and behavioural. It also deals in detail with the assessment and management of the various aspects associated with alcohol use, such as abuse, dependence, withdrawal and complications, along with psychological interventions aimed at managing addictive behaviours. It is a valuable tool for health professionals with an interest in addiction medicine.
Duration of course: The course is divided into 2 sections, with the first section focusing on “Basics of Addiction” and Alcohol addiction whereas the second section will be an “Advanced module” covering other substances of abuse as well as Addiction management. The entire course will be spread over 11 months (February 2019- February 2020) and will include periodic assessments as part of the requirement for completion.
Teaching methodology: The training will be through blended learning model.
Face to face Virtual sessions through VKN NIMHANS ECHO + Self paced e-learning through the medium of Google Classroom app.
1. More than 60% Attendance in Thursday Tele-ECHO VKN sessions (as measured by the software and your video presence)
2. Presentation of at least 2 or more Addiction related patient case summaries and one follow up
3. > 75% in all the Assignments provided periodically
4. Monthly reports of patients seen
5. Completion of pre-test and periodic assignments

1.When will I have access to the lectures and assignments?
- Every Thursday 11am will be the face to face Lectures and e-learning materials will be sent fortnightly. Once you enroll for the course, you’ll have access to the requisite learning materials and review assignments. Assignments can only be submitted and reviewed once the course has begun.
2.Will I have the opportunity to clear my doubts or ask questions from the course resource persons?
- YES. During the Virtual Tele-ECHO sessions and also through the E-learning platform in Google classroom every fortnight. Some questions will be answered in group and some as personalized.
3.Does the certificate mean that I am certified to practise as an addiction mental health professional?
The certificate means that you have successfully completed this course by achieving the course learning objectives. This course introduces you to the basic concepts of addiction. This is as professional developmental course for remote learners. You are strongly encouraged to seek additional professional training in order to practise as a mental health professional or an addiction specialist.

There is NO Certificate For Participation ONLY. Only those who completed Blended training as mentioned above are eligible for the same
