Substance use disorders (SUDs/Addiction) (alcohol and other drug misuse) account for 5.4% of the world annual disease burden. While tobacco and alcohol have been the major legal substances of abuse in India, there has been a rapid and substantial increase in the use of marijuana, newer drugs of abuse (methamphetamine, LSD) and pharmaceuticals.
Adolescents are experimenting with drugs much earlier, placing them at a higher risk for addiction and related harm. Substance use has a substantial impact on not only on the user’s physical and mental health, but also has devastating consequences for the family and society at large. The growing problem of addictions (alcohol, drugs and behavioral health issues like gambling and internet addiction) on the one hand and lack of trained service providers on the other hand, led to a huge “treatment gap”. There is an urgent need to bridge this treatment gap in this specialized area of public health importance.

Duration:

50hrs (36 hrs live sessions by zoom video conference at VKN ECHO + 14 hours self paced e-learning at elearn.vknnimhans.in)

This Certificate course has been reviewed and approved by NIMHANS Digital Academy Board of Studies in 2019.

1. More than 75% Attendance(14 /18 sessions),in the weekly Tuesday@2.30PM Tele-ECHO VKN clinic as measured by the software and your video presence( >90 minutes video presence for each live session).

2. Presentation of two Addiction related patient case summaries at Tele-ECHO VKN clinic 

3. Completion of five E-Assignments at elearn.vknnimhans.in and score >75% for each Assignment: 1st attempt and if not cleared one more attempt (Total 2 attempts and time frame is 48hrs).Post 48hrs the system will close. 

4. Monthly reports of patients seen till (Jan 21-April 21)  during course period and preferbly December 2021.

5. Completion of pre-test and post test.

2. Where does the course fees go?
It is deposited in the Project account of Virtual Knowledge Network under Director, NIMHANS is a central government institution, MOHFW India. Fees used to purchase the secured software. This amount will be utilized for developing content, learning materials, assignments, use of technology etc.

3. I am not working in the clinical side, how can I take cases/ send monthly report.?

We request you to assess any substance related cases from the community or workplace, because case discussion is the heart of VKN tele-ECHO program

4. What if I missed the assignment?
Kindly note that, two attempts are allowed. 48hrs is the time frame >75% score is needed to qualify.

5. What if I did not clear/pass the assignment?
You can continue to discuss the cases in tele-ECHO consultation session, part of this peer led learning and receive all the materials from elearn.vknnimhans.in as defined but there is NO Certificate of Course Completion .
