Masterclass on Digital Learning and E-health
Transforming Healthcare Through Digital Innovation
NIMHANS Digital Academy
February - May 2022
Introduction: The Digital Transformation
Addiction and mental health issues are growing public health problems. Studies worldwide show that >75% of people diagnosed with addictive disorders do not have access to care.
Two Critical Barriers Identified:
- Lack of skilled providers
- Stigma in accessing services
"Advances in digital technologies have created unprecedented opportunities to modify both barriers and create opportunities in improving access to care - exponentially increasing skilled providers and decreasing stigma through optimal use of e-health."
Why This Masterclass?
We believe that by leveraging digital technology, one can bring transformation for both learning and tele-healthcare.
Adult Learning in the Digital Age
Adult learning or andragogy builds content around the needs and interests of the person. Adults are motivated to learn as they experience needs that learning will satisfy. Their orientation to learning is life-centered and self-directed. Hence, mentoring is the most suitable form of education.
Digital Learning: Advantages
- Makes learning more ubiquitous and connected
- Learner-controlled and available 24/7
- Access to immense information resources
- Facilitators can point learners to readily available valuable resources
E-health in SUD & Mental Health
E-health is an emerging field at the intersection of medical informatics, public health, and business, referring to health services and information delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies. It characterizes not only a technical development but also a state-of-mind, a way of thinking, an attitude, and a commitment for networked, global thinking to improve healthcare locally, regionally, and worldwide.
