Programme Overview
The Diploma in Community Mental Health is specially designed for Medical Officers (MBBS or above) working in various parts of the country. This comprehensive course provides a solid foundation in understanding common mental health conditions and their effective management.

Learning Objectives
On completion of this diploma, participants will be able to:
- Identify mental health disorders including Anxiety disorders, Depressive Disorders, Alcohol use Disorders, Nicotine use disorders, and Psychotic disorders
- Formulate pharmacological treatment for Depressive disorders, Anxiety disorders, Alcohol use disorders, and Nicotine use disorders
- Prioritize cases that can be managed at primary care level versus those requiring specialist referral

Core Competencies
โ What You CAN Do
- Screen and identify common mental health conditions (Depression, Anxiety, Alcohol use Disorder, Psychosis)
- Dispense commonly prescribed drugs (Sertraline, Escitalopram, Amitriptyline, Diazepam, Lorazepam, Risperidone, Olanzapine)
- Discuss with caregivers and family members about mental health conditions
- Choose brief psychological interventions (relaxation exercises, brief intervention for alcohol, problem-solving)
- Recommend appropriate referrals to higher centers when needed
โ What You CANNOT Do
- Manage severe/chronic mental health disorders (Chronic Psychosis, Bipolar disorder, with suicidal ideation)
- Manage substance use disorders except alcohol, dementia, childhood disorders
- Prescribe psychotropics with life-threatening side effects (Lithium, Clozapine)
- Administer ECT or other brain stimulation
- Call yourself or designate as a Psychiatrist
Accreditation Requirements
- Attendance: Minimum 75% (18/24 live sessions) with >60 minutes video presence per session
- Case Presentation: Present TWO case summaries during weekly live sessions
- E-Assignments: Complete SIX e-assignments with minimum 75% score each (Second attempt available if first attempt is completed)
- Monthly Reports: Submit monthly patient reports during the course
- Pre & Post Tests: Complete both (no scoring involved)
Programme Duration & Schedule
- Self-Paced Learning: 12 hours at your convenience
- Live Sessions: 48 hours (24 sessions ร 2 hours each)
- Total Course Hours: 60 hours
- Weekly Schedule: Every Tuesday, 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM IST
- Entry Deadline: Session starts at 2:30 PM, locked after 2:45 PM
