About NIMHANS ECHO
NIMHANS ECHO, established in 2014, is a collaboration with Project ECHO, University of New Mexico Health Science Centre (UNMHSC), USA. It's an innovative knowledge-sharing and capacity-building program using a Hub and Spoke model to connect specialists with healthcare providers.
The "Hub and Spoke" model connects an interprofessional specialist team at NIMHANS (Hub) with healthcare providers (Spokes) through multipoint videoconferencing technology for regular sessions.
Regional Success Stories
Bihar: Addiction and Mental Health
26 primary healthcare providers screened 2,695 individuals, identifying 832 alcohol use disorders. They retained 49.1% of cases for follow-up, requiring only 3% specialist referrals.
Chhattisgarh: Integrated Mental Health
12 counsellors provided services to 4,743 patients in remote districts over 6 months, showing increased learning and self-confidence.
